New TB cases worldwide ratio:
About 10.6 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with tuberculosis. Of these, 7.5 million patients were first-time victims of this infectious lung disease. However, if someone gets tuberculosis once, the chances of getting it again are high.
According to the World Health Organization, its monitoring of tuberculosis started in 1995, and since then the highest number of tuberculosis cases was recorded in 2022.In a report this year, the United Nations agency linked the increase in the number of new cases to delays in TB treatment during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In this regard, Dr. Ramya Ananthakrishnan, associated with ‘Reach’, an organization working on tuberculosis in India, says that many people could not be tested for TB due to measures like quarantine during the epidemic of Covid-19.
Which countries have the highest rates of TB:
In 2022, just eight countries in Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia accounted for two-thirds of all new TB cases worldwide. These countries were India, Indonesia, China, Philippines, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh and People’s Republic of Congo. However, among these, India, the Philippines and Indonesia also saw the largest reduction in overall TB cases worldwide, which was 60 percent.
How many deaths are caused by TB annually:
Last year, TB was the cause of nearly 1.3 million deaths worldwide. In comparison, the number of annual deaths due to tuberculosis in 2020 and 2021 was 1.4 million.
According to a report by the World Health Organization, in 2022, the highest number of deaths due to a single type of infectious microbe was due to Covid, while TB was the second major cause of such deaths.
The report also stated that the number of deaths from tuberculosis was almost twice the number of deaths from HIV and AIDS. It is also worth mentioning here that tuberculosis is not only a major cause of death in HIV-infected patients, but they are 18 times more likely to develop tuberculosis than other people.
How to prevent From TB deaths:
85% of TB patients recover after proper treatment. So, one of the ways to reduce the mortality from this disease is its early diagnosis. A vaccine called BCG or Basal Calmette-Guerin is also used to prevent TB.
This vaccine has been used for almost a century and is usually given to children. While the vaccine is effective enough for children under the age of five, it is less effective for older people and people with other diseases, such as AIDS and diabetes.
Vaccines to prevent from TB :
New vaccines are also being developed to protect against TB, but they are not yet used at the community level. In addition, if a patient is harboring the bacteria that causes TB and is showing symptoms of the disease, they can also use therapeutic drugs, such as isoniazid.
In this regard, the World Health Organization has also advised that these people should also use medicines that come in contact with TB patients, so that they do not get this infection. With this kind of suggestion, we can save himself from all the troubles of TB as well. Govt Crackdown
